A woman who died in a house fire has been named.

Amanda Pearse, 42, of Weetwood Avenue, Wooler, Northumberland, was pronounced dead by paramedics in the street outside her home after efforts to resuscitate her failed.

Firefighters rescued her from the house after the emergency services were called to the blaze at around 12.45am on Friday.

Neighbours stood helplessly by in the street while paramedics tried to resuscitate her.

Fire crews tackled a severe blaze in the living room of the two-storey, semi-detached house. The cause is being investigated.
