Wooler lose despite taking lead
In Division One of the North Northumberland League, a late 25-yard shot separated hosts Lynemouth from Ashington Athletic as the visitors won 2-1.
Darren Burn for Lynemouth and Richie Morris for Ashington saw the teams level at half time but a late 25-yard effort from David Jones gave Ashington the points.
Acklington Athletic lost 1-0 to visitors Shilbottle. In a scrappy game the only goal came from Alan Wallace who scored after 35 minutes.
Alnmouth won 4-0 against Bedlington Terriers reserves. In a good game where Bedlington enjoyed a lot of the possession, it was Alnmouth who led at half time, following goals after six minutes from Michael Robson and Joe Moscrop after 25 minutes.
After half time two goals from James Swordy at 60 and 75 minutes sealed the win for Alnmouth. Shaun Wilkinson took man of the match for Bedlington after a fine display for the visitors.
Berwick Town also won at home, 3-1 against Lowick United. After a goalless first half in a scrappy local derby, Town lifted their game in the second half as two Andrew Gibson goals and one from Jordan Ainslie gave them the points with Shaun Walton on target for Lowick.
The final Division One game saw North Sunderland win 2-1 at home to Craster Rovers. The hosts were the stronger team during the first half and took a deserved half time lead thanks to two goals from Neil Macfarlane. They eased off in the second half and allowed Craster back into the game when David Hogg netted from Craster from the penalty spot.
In Division Two, Alnmouth United got taught a lesson by visitors Lynemouth reserves, losing 7-1. Alnmouth were, however, the stronger team in the early stages and actually took a 10th minute lead with a Tony Thompson goal. Lynemouth hit back to net three times before the half time whistle.
In the second half Lynemouth ran in another four goals. Goalscorers were Tony Messenger (4), John Messenger, Andrew Walton and Simon Swinney.
Rothbury reserves found no reply to visitors Alnwick Town reserves' 4. Rothbury defended well during the first half but found themselves a goal behind at half time. In the second half Alnwick were the stronger team and netted three more to continue unbeaten in the league so far this season. Dale Kennedy netted twice with Gary Taylor and David McCann netting the others.
Embleton drew 1-1 with Belford. Both teams wasted some good chances in a goalless first half, but right at the start of the second half Embleton went ahead with a Carl Porter goal. Play was fairly even until the 70h minute, when belford were awarded a penalty with Andy Thompson netting from the spot to give Belford a point.
Hedgeley Rovers also drew, 2-2 with visiting Springhill. Hedgeley started strongly and led at half time with goals from Fergus Machin and Stephen Shendon. Springhill hit back after half time to take a point with goals from Kristian Neil and Paul Johnson.
Wooler lost 2-1 to Bamburgh Castle, even though Wooler created plenty of chances during the game and took a 25 minute lead with a Jamie Bissett goal. They continued to create chances but a Jack Nicol goal after 41 minutes saw the teams level at half time.
Bamburgh then scored the winning goal, when Stephen Walker scored after 75 minutes.
In the NFA Minor Cup, the much-delayed Rothbury game took place, but they failed to find form as Killingworth netted six times. John Angus and Michael Old scored for Rothbury.
